I think I actually had steam coming out of my ears reading this. This is the most I have ever hated a book in my entire life; I seriously tore my copy to shreds and recycled it because there was no way I was keeping it or subjecting someone else to it. I did finish it, just to see how it would end, but I hated every second, INCLUDING THE END. It was so bad, filled with misgendering and deadnaming and a complete disregard to what the trans experience is actually like (coming from a trans person). The main character was so whiny and low-key (HIGH-KEY AT ONE POINT) transphobic. The WORST PART is that we're supposed to like and understand and root for this character, when all he does is make horrible decisions and treat everyone around him badly. The only slightly saving grace of this book was the part with the drag bar, and even that was half baked and not good. I kind of wish I still had the book because, for how long ago I read it, it continues to actively be the worst book I've ever read. I spent most of the time ranting in the blank spaces of the book in order to keep myself from tearing it before I finished it. Anyway. 5 stars.
