Titus Alone by Mervyn Peake

Every Gormenghast book is an extremely odd experience, full of bizarre characters.... But this one puts the others to shame, and honestly, not in the best of ways. It was a tiny book, but still took me about a month to read. I think that much of the series' charm comes from the castle itself, and with Titus outside of the castle, the series becomes much less interesting. The new cast of characters lack the depth and color of the previous inhabitants.

Even so, it is such a shame Peake wasn't able to finish the series. I am incredibly curious about where the story would have gone after this.
