neverlonely 's review for:
Centennial
by James A. Michener
My all-time favorite book. I saw the mini-series first and just knew that I had to read the book. Being Michener, it was long and detailed, but I loved every word. I felt sad as each era came to an end because I grew to love the characters so much. And just as I began to think I could never love any characters more than, say, Pasquinel and McKeag, along comes someone like Levi Zendt or Sheriff Dumire and the love affair starts all over again. The only character I found thoroughly despicable was Sam Purchas. Even the Wendells and Oliver Seccombe had something to recommend them, some kind of charm. And don't let those first hundred pages or so fool you. They really do have something to do with the plot. Aah, that clever James Michener.
Re: the mini series. It, too, was excellent, although I thought Sally Kellerman was miscast as Lise. The rest of the cast was perfect.
