A hauntingly beautiful depiction of one father's journey navigating life and loss through his son's terminal Tay-Sachs diagnosis. The artwork was stunning, atmospheric, and emotional with creative twists that punched the gut: a scene where the father is picking out a birthday card and it says "baby's last birthday", the milestones list shifting from development to deterioration, the father's own childhood fear of death becoming a reaper-like character present in scenes with his child. The depiction of a vast array of disabled bodies was beautifully done as well. The combination of the deeply resigned matter-of-fact narration and atmospheric emotive artwork made the father's grief devastatingly real. A book that upon finishing, you hug to your heart.
