This book felt very long-winded with too much detail included. I think the author should have written a book around Adrienne Lafayette and a second book detailing Beatrice and Marthe. I struggled to see the connection between the 3 characters until it was clarified around the halfway mark and by then I felt like I was trudging along just to get the book done.
