The Do-Over
by T.L. Swan
3.5 stars and only because I've loved most of TL's other books
I'm...disappointed. I've loved this series. The last 3 books were ridiculously amazing, but this one was lackluster at best.
That was entirely Christopher's character's doing. Hayden was great. Such a positive female lead. But Christopher...well he was difficult to like. Violent, yelly, arrogant (not in a good way), ignorant, and self-centered. I enjoy it when characters have flaws, but usually they grow from them. Here, he didn't.
Hayden gave and gave (way too much in my opinion, but that's beside the point), yet he never sacrificed anything for her. And when he did, it was for a secondary character that I never really got attached to. Eddie's character kind of felt forced down my throat in a 'you have to like him because he's important to the story' kind of way.
We also didn't get to see the change in Christopher that results in the last 20 pages, so those kind of seemed to come out of nowhere.
TL normally writes such riveting and dramatic contemporary romance that I expected so much more. Sadly, I'm not sure I'll read the upcoming novel epilogue to this series. To be seen... I'll probably re-read the other 3 and reassess.
