Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel by Val Emmich

5.0

"We´re weaving in between trees, careful not to disturb, we're on a mission. We mean no trouble. There are so many of us, the lonely souls. (...) We march on together.
Climbing,
falling,
soaring.
Trying to get closer to the center of everything. Closer to ourselves.
Closer to something true."

This story made my heart swell and my eyes leak uncontrollably and rather involuntarily. If this is what the novel feels like, I couldn't be more scared to find out what the musical must inspire. Because wow. A mere wow. I've heard and seen so many people show their appreciation towards the Dear Evan Hansen story, but it's finally a relief to have lived it for myself and to be able to agree with everyone else: it's no wonder that this tale saves lives, because it truly is the story for anyone and everyone who needs to be found, to be reminded of their relevance and friendly nudged in the direction of pushing through yet another day. I really am at a loss for words. Dear Evan Hansen pulls what few others do, and I recommend it to anyone with a beating heart.

"'That's what happens when people leave, I think. When they're gone, you don't have to be reminded of all the bad things. They can just stay the way you want them forever. Perfect.'"
