Rogue Protocol by Martha Wells
4.5
These continue to be the perfect length. Each episode is murderbot exploring relationships between itself and other humans, other bots, other constructs. The conclusion is that it cares despite itself and it cares because it has a 'person' in Dr. Mensah. These adventures are about realizing itself outside of others' control.
Murderbot is becoming what I would term "more human" and it's a bit of an asshole. Or a smart-ass maybe. The author veered towards this more sarcastic or bitter behaviour including the sudden appearance of swearing in this installment which is fine but feels tonally odd given the short amount of time passing in the books.
Still enjoyable but I get the sense it's a good thing these are novellas.
