Molly's Game: Inside the World of High Stakes Poker by Molly Bloom
3.0
Entertaining but too easily read during an NYC-to-LA flight. The pace is exhausting and "important" people and plot points simply disappear to fit whatever tight length guidelines were imposed by the publisher. So so many decently interesting characters simply vanish. How mass market can you get? It's supposedly a poker book yet there's not a single memorable hand played, and zero analysis here for the die-hards.
I also find it odd that the book attempts an internal monologue of good-versus-bad, volunteering at a hospital versus running a poker game, yet we have to read between the lines (and search Google) to learn about substance abuse problems faced by the author.
Also, Molly was making a lot of money in cash! There are so many interesting tangents we could have gone on. Yet, all we ever got was that one bank terminated her business, pretty early on. Some of the most interesting parts end up being boring. Too dumbed down for me.
