Shiny Broken Pieces by Dhonielle Clayton, Sona Charaipotra

4.0

Shiny Broken Pieces is a book that I've been waiting to read since I finished the first in the series over a year ago. The authors have perfected the right mix of boarding school, the ballet world, and suspenseful drama. I enjoyed that the cohesive stories are told from each girl's perspective. Each girl has a distinct voice and characteristics. We follow Bette, Gigi, June, and Cassie through their final drama filled year at an elite ballet academy. They are vying for spots to work as a ballerina after graduation at the American Ballet Company. The authors don't rely on cliches or character stereotypes to create the drama and suspense, just great writing and storytelling. Each girl wants a spot at ABC and is willing to give almost anything to get it. I appreciated that each character is multi faceted. No one is purely perfect or evil. I find it interesting to read about people with exceptional talent try to achieve greatness within their world. I highly recommend giving Shiny Broken Pieces by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton a read, as well as the first in the series.
