The Ghost Files by Apryl Baker

2.0

I really wanted to enjoy this book, it sounded right up my street, but I genuinely feel like I've wasted a good few hours of my life reading this.

I found Mattie (the main character) was incredibly hard to like or to warm to. There was an underlying theme that Mattie HAD to fancy every single male character that was under the age of 25.

While Officer Dan did seem like the kind of guy I could understand the attraction to, it was actually incredibly problematic, he's in a position of trust at the start of this book and as we progress he somehow manages to end up going with Mattie on her adventures and eventually confessing his love for her?! It was an issue for me that I couldn't get over throughout the book.

That being said I did want to keep reading, I think more out of morbid curiosity of what the hell was going on...

And I did enjoy how it suddenly turned and hit that darker side, where we finally discovered what had happened to Sally. I thought the twist was quite unexpected (without giving it away).

On the whole, The Ghost Files was quite a problematic book in terms of the relationships that build within it, it didn't quite flow like a normal book would but it does give you a sense of morbid curiosity that you feel you have to keep reading... I certainly won't be rushing to read the follow on books let's put it that way!
