a powerful account.
i found the part where he discovered the true nature of the 'north', and how it showcased how societies could function well without slavery very compelling, in how it was the final instance that completely demonstrated to him that it was possible to uphold economic and social wellbeing without the support of slavery at the helm.
douglass demonstrates the manifold ways in which dehumanization affects the oppressor and the oppressed, and the way people come to see such dehumanization as 'normal' in poignant detail.
