Napoleon: A Life by Andrew Roberts

3.5

guy who says he's trying to write a fair and balanced biography then proceeds to slob napoleon's knob for 35 hours (i can't remember the page count of the book, i listened to the audiobook </3 )

in all seriousness, this is a fine, highly detailed, and well researched biography of napoleon bonaparte. some parts were a slog for me, but that's more my not being terribly interested in the details of battles and warfare, but more the human element, which there was also plenty of. you can definitely tell andrew roberts is quite a napoleon fan, but that's to be expected for a biography of this length and breadth. you would either have to completely loathe the man or idolize him to write at such lengths, either way requires passion which the author clearly has.
