The Mystery of the Blue Train by Agatha Christie

mysterious medium-paced

4.0

This was my pick for March’s #ReadChristie2024 and it was one I actually guessed right about who the killer was. It is a miracle! This never happens!

This was one of the books that Christie herself wasn’t a fan of and it was one she struggled writing just before her famous disappearance and after it. Also, her mother had died and her husband had an affair so I think the circumstances surrounding this book is the reason she hated it.

Personally I think it is a great mystery. It is a bit slow at the start when you are introduced to quite a few characters but it all ties together to make for a thrilling murder investigation with the ever brilliant Hercule Poirot.

There are a variety of suspects with a mistress, husband, millionaire father, a maid, an assistant and a woman who has inherited a fortune. Which one is guilty?

You can see where the inspiration for her most famous book Murder on the Orient Express most likely came from. The murder on the train and the process of reading about Poirot trying to work out who could have committed the crime is quite similar.

Another very enjoyable Christie that I flew through in a couple of days. All her books will forever be a comfort read for me.
