I Was Born for This by Alice Oseman

5.0

You all better not fucking sleep on this book, because it is amazing.

This review isn't going to do this book justice, because I'm so emotional and can hardly think.

We're following two characters, from each their perspectives.
Jimmy; a trans, gay boy with severe anxiety, in the most famous band in the UK.
And Angel; a fan of The Ark, who doesn't know who she is besides this band.
Throughout the book, they each try to find their truth, while still having to deal with everyone's expectations and hopes for their future. Until they are brought together after a horrible event, and are faced with the truth of reality.

The characters themselves are lovely, and they all feel real. Not a single character in here is perfect. Everyone's just doing their best.
They all have their own individual personality, and their own reasons for doing what they're doing.

And THE REPRESENTATION!!!! Oh my gosh. Not only is it racially diverse, and has great LGBT+ rep, but also the mental health rep in this book was amazing. I could relate so much to Jimmy's anxiety, I was crying throughout half this book.
I've read great books about anxiety, and I've always been able to relate to them, but not like this. I've never been able to connect with a character's anxiety like I did in this book.
And for that, I'm so grateful.
