12 Years a Slave

This book should be required reading in every high school in America along side Uncle Tom's Cabin. It's a brutally unfiltered view into the treatment of African American slaves on Southern plantations and Mr. Northup's incredible resilience through it all. It carries the weight of his lived experience in slavery, making it harder to dismiss or sanitize than fiction books.
