gcavagnaro 's review for:
My Sister's Keeper
by Jodi Picoult
I was going to rate this a 3, but the ending pushed it up to 4 stars. I certainly didn't see it coming, and it gave the book an extra punch - it's not often that I find that a death makes a book better, so this is definitely an anomaly. In fact, my opinion may be an anomaly as well. I would have been satisfied without it, as the topic at hand was very intriguing and how things unraveled seemed to fit. It does feel like the book was longer than it needed to be, so I'm glad I was in audiobook form.
This is my second of Jodi Picoult's - I definitely didn't enjoy my first (Wish You Were Here) but after seeing many comments saying her earlier work was better, I decided to give it another go. I don't think I like the author's writing style very much - there are too many side notes intended to tie into the story in some meaningful way, but to me it ends up feeling like ramblings that I want to get done with so that we can move on with the story itself. That said, the premise here was definitely compelling, so I would be willing to listen (not read) to more of her work if the plot poses promise.
