Oh! Why did I wait so long to read this book? I think I heard a little bit about it and thought, "Self-consciously wacky... blah." I was wrong. It's marvelous. So so good. Is it NOT wacky? Wacky is the wrong word. It's original. It's often quite funny. It's full of moments that make you sit up and think and feel. And marvel.
Some books have good beginnings or great endings. This book is good all the way through.
There were times when I wasn't sure if it would hold up for me. I thought I saw weak points, and I guess there might be little tiny moments that don't work, but they hardly seem worth mentioning. I don't remember them at all.
This novel is ambitious and convincing, with a gorgeous protagonist. A thrilling voice.
So very well done.
