This is a very inspiring book by a passionate (almost obsessive) author who has spent his life thinking about longevity and "Healthspan" (which he says is more important than longevity, and I agree). My only complaint about this book is that it could have been half the length, and that's not really even much of a complaint because his stories and detours were so often worth it.

Here, I'll save you nine hours of reading and give you the key takeaways:
-- It is possible for most people to avoid the Marginal Decade at the end of life (his term for a last decade of life that is mostly suffering) but it takes a lot more hard work than most of us would ever imagine. (However much hard work you think he's talking about... it's more than that.)
-- The key is to push the Four Horsemen back a decade or even two in your life. The Four Horsemen are Heart Disease, Cancer, Neurodegenerative disease, and metabolic dysfunction. Almost all of us will die of one or more of these Horsemen, so staving them off as long as possible is at the heart of extending our Healthspan.
-- We do this by working about five times harder than we currently do on our habits related to: Exercise, Nutrition, Sleep, and Emotional health. Of the four, Exercise is by a very long shot the most important one. This work should begin as early as possible.

There. That's the book. But the details were fascinating and I'm really glad I read it. I'm going to stop typing now so I can spend the afternoon lifting weights and riding a bike at the same time!
