Born of Legend by Sherrilyn Kenyon

4.0

4.5 starts - mostly because Sherrilyn Kenyon is amazing are continuity. Dagger's takes place throughout five of the books that came before it (Can be read as a stand alone, but I STRONGLY recommend against that!), and I knew exactly what was happening on both sides of the timeline because of how memorable all of the books are.

Jullien a.k.a. Dagger's book is just heartbreaking and knowing what you know about him from previous books it just makes you love him and want him to find peace even more. I would love to re-read the previous books to get a different perspective now that I have Jullien's POV of the events. All in all I binge read this book. It had me hooked and from the moment I re-meet Jullien it was so hard to hate him as I kinda wanted to. He's sarcastic and just so....huggable. He's had a rough rough life and it actually made me doubt my love for other characters that have come before him. Which just makes Kenyon that much more of a fantastic writer!

There were a couple of things that irks and kept popping up in my head as I read.

1. There was a lot of repeating of phrases "contentious asshole" was one of them that as much as I loved the phrase to describe Jullien, because it's true and became almost an endearment, it got almost to overused for my liking. Minor, but my irk. lol

*BIT OF A SPOILER COMING*

2. As a fan of the Dark Hunter Series, there were a lot of parallels for me between Acheron/Nyk and Styxx/Jules. More then just the twins being at odds, but the same events and both having the horrible childhood.
- One having a good relationship with a blood maternal figure while the other builds that family. (Ash/Nyk with his real mother - Styxx/Jules with his Tavali family)
- One trying to help the other brother but making things worse in the eyes of the other. (Styxx trying to help Ash when they were young/Jules' version of helping Nyk while in school)
-The 'favoring' of one and 'disfavoring' of the other when really both are disfavored.

While Styxx and Ash have their own story and plot wise totally different then that of Nyk and Jules...the parallels were to close for me.

But again, all in all, I LOVED Jullien's book and can't wait to get my hands on the next one!
