A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

I jumped into this book immediately after finishing ACOTAR, fresh from the trauma Feyre and Tamlin faced Under the Mountain. I thought I loved Tamlin, but after seeing him do absolutely nothing to save Feyre in the ACOTAR and him basically becoming a controlling ass-hat was enough to make me forget about him. Which was precisely what Sarah J. Maas wanted. The book quickly shifted to Feyre and Rhysand, focusing on the enlarging threat from Hybern. Romance takes a backseat, but it still has incredibly romantic undertones. Sometimes I feel like I love romances in books even more when they're not the main plot line. The plot is terrific, and the world-building really expands Prythian, whereas ACOTAR primarily focused on the drama within the Spring Court. I found myself really enjoying the descriptions of Velaris and creepy characters like The Weaver and The Bone Creeper. And I loved the Night Court characters, especially Morrigan and Cassian. All of them had incredible back-stories and I enjoyed learning more about them. Sarah J. Maas really outdid herself.

But what I loved about this book the most was Feyre and Rhysand! If you told me that I would love Rhysand this much when I was reading ACOTAR I would have thought it was impossible. But I do love him so much! I was so touched when I learned that he knew Feyre was his mate from the moment she was reborn and how he restrained himself from taking her away immediately. I loved how he treated her as an equal and protected her at all costs. I loved his good heart and his vulnerability. This book mended my soul and broke my heart again at the end. Am immediately picking up the next book to read.
