The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick

Hmmm
I feel like I am not deep enough to fully appreciate this book.
Also, I don't know enough about history to fully understand it... Did everything that happened in "the grasshopper lies heavy" actually happen in our world? Was it accurately predicting the alternate future? I have absolutely no idea. I also didn't really get the significance of that. I was more interested in Tagomi's venture into the alternate future using the Frink jewelry... but they never really explained that, and Frink never really found out that his jewelry was special after all.
I don't know, the book felt more like it was trying to make a statement on sociological issues rather than have a compelling story. Which isn't really my cup of tea >_>
I did like the way that language evolved in this story, so that everyone omits subjects and articles so that they sound like japanese people trying to speak english. It was unique, and surprisingly easy to understand even though it was so choppy.
