The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov

4.0

I read this when I was about 16 and recently realised I remembered nothing about it, so gave it another go. It's so good! Funny in a dry, very human way that has affection even for the most flawed and unlikeable characters, at times genuinely haunting or wryly political. Bulgakov is also amazing at imagery that's at the same time ridiculous and striking. Behemoth may be one of my favourite literary characters ever.
