I absolutely love Wally Lamb’s book. But this one gutted me. It starts with an addict who accidentally kills his son then is incarcerated. Most of the book is about his incarceration. It’s heart-wrenching. Especially regarding a series of events that happen right before he gets released. Then Covid happens. I was an emotional mess when I finished this book. I did like how the author did not let the main character’s wife (who basically moved on with her life) off the hook. This was a guy-wrenching book. But so well-told.
