Heroes by Robert Cormier

3.0

I wanted to take a break from reading difficult classics and the like and I've enjoyed a few other Cormier books, so I picked up Heroes at the library.
It's okay. Two and a half stars would probably be more accurate. This book examines the way we hold people up as heroes even though we possess an inadequate knowledge of those people to make such grand designations.
Sounds like a heady book full of promise, eh? Well, it isn't. Cormier's thematic exploration falls woefully short, mostly because the book is, well, too short. Everything is rushed and you reach the climax so quickly that you've had no time to process the novella's big ideas, nor have you had time to get to know or care about the characters. I've seen better characterization in a bowl of Alphabits cereal.
