Unruly: A History of England's Kings and Queens by David Mitchell

funny informative

5.0

I definitely see why this was a Goodreads Choice nominee! I really enjoyed the tone (a comedian does history) but that would also be a dealbreaker for people who don't enjoy the irreverent tone or blasé attitude towards history and scholarly rigor. That tone though is exactly what I loved about the book - if you're considering if it's the right book for you, check out the Viking section and after a paragraph you'll know if it's the book for you. I enjoyed it and hope he does a second book that goes from the Stuarts through the Windsors.
I usually listen to my audiobooks at 2x speed and had to listen to it slower (which is nice - but also it meant it took me longer to read than I had initially anticipated) - Mitchell does a good job of narrating too.
