The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz
reflective
slow-paced
3.0
I first read this as a senior in a seminar class about manifestation at my catholic university. I didn’t particularly think one way or another about it then, and having read it again as an adult much removed from the classroom setting I still think it’s middle of the road. Great for those who get a lot out from self help books, but I am not that person.
However some parts are particularly pertinent right now in the light of the current political upheaval, as there was a discussion about the power of words wielded to harm and the impact that harmful messages have on the psyche and on the world. In the era of the overtly Christian nationalism hostility towards those that do not conform, being impeccable with one’s word can be a powerful statement, when standing up to fascism.
