There were parts of this I LOVED, and I LOVED (all caps) them so much that I couldn't possibly give lower than 3 stars. I do like Armentrouts writing and her characters and their interactions with some cool ass plots. But despite my 3 star rating, I'd really say this is more of a 2.5 because of...well, Layla. The Mc. It's not that I didn't like her. It's that...there was nothing for me to NOT like. And that may not make her unlikable, but it doesn't make her likable either. Super perfect, awesome, brave, pure, pretty girl in a love triangle feels very...old to me. Maybe it was because this was written in 2014 when these kinds of tropes were more popular. Maybe we've progressed in making our heroines less likable, more REAL, you know? Well, at least that's my opinion. I liked the read and if I get the chance, I'll pick up book 2, but despite all of Layla's perfections, I can't quite say the same about the book (also, perfect heroines are kind of out...but I guess literature changes with the times? Hm.)
