Chess Story by Stefan Zweig

5.0

“Chess Story" is a gripping, and insightful read. Zweig brilliantly explores the human mind through chess. The novella shows the fragility of a human's mind in the face of isolation. The line between sanity and madness can be a threadbare one. Desperately clinging to our sanity can be a difficult dance, for even the most well-intentioned efforts might unwittingly lead us down the path to madness. The novella also shows that the scars from the torture of isolation can linger on; even if one escapes from the physical restraints of it, the mental effects of it remain battered.
