This was my first "bully romance" and so it definitely was a bit rough for me to get started. The MCs are seniors in HS (one is 18, the other is 17 at the start of the book and turns 18 before most of the spice), and both characters definitely are in need of a lot of growth. They each come from families that have faced their share of tragedies and both families have dealt with those challenges in less than ideal ways. Add to that the class differences and finding themselves and Clay and Olivia are on a collision course from page one.
The first half of the book was like watching a train wreck in slow motion as I found myself constantly saying to the characters "no don't do that! Thats a terrible idea!", but they slowly, very slowly, start to come to terms w their feelings for each other as well as how they interact with those around them.
There was a surprising amount of action (not the spicy kind, although there's lots of that too) as the MCs and their friends and families clash w one another across the tracks. This took some dark turns I didn't expect, so check the CWs.
In the end I really enjoyed this book, the characters and how they grew throughout the book.
