Don't Believe a Word by Patricia MacDonald

3.0

This was more of a mystery than a thriller but still a fun summer read. It was a little long in the buildup but I never saw the end coming. It didn’t even need a twist. The writing is average; the audiobook was okay but I think I’d rather have read it in print. I would actually give about another 1/4 star if that was possible. The novel is about a young woman who is working as an editor for a publisher. She’s semi-estranged from her mom who had left her dad and moved away with her new family. Despite the tense relationship she still loves her mom. Then, she sees on the news that a woman in Cleveland and her special needs child have died in a murder-suicide. And strangely enough the house behind the reporter resembles her mom’s house. She just can’t believe the news. How could that be possible?!?
