The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
1.0

I want to start by saying I really disliked this book, wholeheartedly. I mean… a fake relationship between a professor and a student. Really? Is this what romance genre has been reduced to?

The story is about our can’t-form-any-boundaries girl Olive kissing the first random guy she sees to convince her best friend that she is over her ex. Why? Because her best friend wants to date her ex. What a selfless act.

That random man turns out to be a famous professor in their field who works at Stanford, the very university she studies at - as a matter of fact, a lot of her friends and peers hate him with their whole being. Only because he does his job and gives proper feedback to students. How dare him!

There were a lot of misunderstandings and lack of communication issues involved in the plot because Olive is such a selfless person - unrealistically selfless. If only she had an X-Ray done she could have found out of that missing backbone of hers.

I can happily say though, after about 300 pages in (which is 50 pages before the book ends, mind you) she finally had the balls to speak up.

Leading to that 300 page mark, there was about 30 pages of Olive and Adam having sex, which frankly got me bored. I realised I wasn’t into any of the characters and definitely wasn’t interested enough in their relationships. I would say my favourite character is Malcolm, but we know nothing about him other than the fact he sleeps around. It’s not just him though, all the characters appeared bland to my eyes.

I personally liked the humour, and the representation of women in STEM (or any male dominated field, really) is always appreciated but other than that… not much positive stuff to say about this book for me.
