Gathering Blossoms Under Fire: The Journals of Alice Walker
by Alice Walker
I was obsessed with Alice Walker in my early 20s - read everything she'd written -and have followed her like a fangirl since. It was tremendously fun to read what was happening in her personal life when she wrote "Meridian," how surprised she was at Celie and Shug's romance arising in "The Color Purple," and how her poems came to her in a hot rush. I also loved reading about her complicated relationship with her daughter Rebecca, her partnership with and subsequent adoration of Tracy Chapman, her crush on Quincy Jones, and lots more. Juicy!
