Really unlike anything else I've read - an astonishing feat of imagination, describing the richest, most realistically complex and full fictional society I can think of in literature. The way the book is structured is ingenious too, building the detail gradually so as never to overwhelm, and to keep up some development and momentum even where there is no "narrative". That said, the narrative portions will be the main draw for most people, and they are among Le Guin's best. Insightful and beautifully written as always.
