A Red Herring Without Mustard by Alan Bradley
5.0
I love Flavia de Luce. Wholeheartedly. She is devious, intelligent, at times surprisingly tender, a world class chemist, solver of mysteries and she is eleven years old.
This third installment of the Flavia series remains steadfastly brilliant. As with the previous novels, this is not a serious crime story, but rather a mysterious lark. The writing is quick witted and humorous. Even better, at this point in the series, we are given brief insights into the characters. Flavia, especially, reveals a small vulnerability that only makes me love her more.
