"There was something just so reassuring about books. They had beginnings and middles and ends, and if you didn't like a part, you could skip to the next chapter. If someone died, you could stop on the last page before, and they'd live on forever. Happy endings were definite, evils defeated, and the good lasted forever."

I LOVED The Dead Romantics last year, and I've been meaning to read more of Ashley Poston ever since... I do love a timeslip romance and I kept hearing fantastic things about The Seven Year Slip, so of course I decided this book would be first. And I ended up having such a great time reading this story! True, it didn't beat The Dead Romantics for me, but it was still a more than solid romance and I loved the magical realism element. The timeslip/magic itself isn't too overpowering, so even if it's not your favorite element this story should still work for you. This has a lot to do with both the writing and the cast of characters, which are fantastic and make it really easy to warm up to this story. Clementine makes for such an interesting character, and while she did frustrate me at times, in this case her flaws somehow worked. I loved her best friends even more though! Such brilliant banter and they really brightened up the plot for me. The romance itself is really well done as well, and it was so great to see their connection grow and the lines between past and present blur. It's not all rainbows and sunshine during the plot, but everything feels well balanced and the character growth is excellent. I also enjoyed how everything was wrapped up in the end, and it's definitely a story that will stay with me for quite some time. Timeslip romance done right, that's for sure!
