Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ by Lew Wallace

While clearly a product of it's time and guilty of some problematic commentary, Ben-Hur is an incredible book to experience. The discourse on faith, love, service, forgiveness & selflessness is beautifully woven into a simple but exquisite plot that is electrifying to read and inspirational to finish. The book is obviously superior to all it's film adaptations, but I can't argue that Charlton Heston's performance clearly brought the visceral yet noble spirit and glory of the character to life.
