Black Water Sister
by Zen Cho
Excellent! Story of a young woman trying to salvage her life that feels like it’s falling apart after moving back to Malaysia and getting haunted/possessed by her dead grandmother and a vengeful god who has never gotten over her husband murdering her. Characters are wonderfully written, complex— particularly fantastic family relationships. The voice writing for the different languages was a particular highlight. The real culprit in this book (other than violence against women) is family members keeping secrets out of shame.
