Age of Ash by Daniel Abraham
4.0
One of the best things about modern fantasy that's often overlooked is the strength of its characters. Abraham does this well by populating his worlds with flawed people who aren't Chosen Ones. He leans the story on them rather than letting the conceits do all the work. But he's no slouch on the mythology, either. The mythology is original and the characters are solid, and I look forward to the next installment, even if this one took a little while to get going. As sad as I am to have The Expanse series ended, it's nice to see Abraham return to fantasy in full force.
