Suicide Notes by Michael Thomas Ford

1.0

Why this author just glazed over the fact jeff was sexually assaulted I will never know. Using it as a realization for him being gay or whatever was awful. It just seemed like it was thrown in lazily to move the plot forward. Also the random fact the girl (cannot be bothered to remember her name) somehow killed herself in a psych ward is bewildering. The whole middle to end of the book seemed rushed. I originally gave it 3 stars because there was some elements I liked and wanted to be generous because some things in this book reminded me of my own stay in the psych ward. But thinking more about it, I hate this book. The whole gay stereotype of wanting to die because you cant accept yourself or whatever is so overused. This book had potential for a good story of overcoming sexual assault, (though wasn’t necessary to the plot, could have still been incorporated.) and other things the characters struggled with, but as I have said before it just seemed so half assed.

I dont mean to be rude to this author but I am extremely offput by the fact jeff was literally s/a’d and its just never properly resolved- or from what I remember resolved in the first place besides the other kid who s/a’d him being moved wards. As a childhood sexual assault survivor it was very distasteful to read. Personally would not recommend this book.
