I was worried about this falling flat when I was an adult but the ending made this series conclusion a full 5 star read. Ugh this book brought back all the feels and lovesickness I experience after reading this for the first time and while some characters were aggravating, they were still so loveable.

Anden was probably my fav character in this book and lowkey I wish we got his sidestory. Maybe it's because I loved seeing the political aspects of this book but Anden had so much pressure from the other politicans and yet tried so hard to get the support of his people so seeing him come up with a balancing act and trying to find solutions that would please both parties was probably my favorite part of the book.

Day, as per usual, was probably my least. Man didn't recognize what Anden was trying to do and it sucked. It's like during the times he had to put input into the situation it was to be the "angry protester" yet he never provided any logical solutions. Because unfortunately, the rich never want to associate with the poor and god forbid they actually do something nice for once. I felt Day never really understood Anden's position... Lowkey he has reason I respect for that but omg he seemed like a whiney baby who never wanted to understand the other side... for someone who started a revolution fighting and empathizing with people... he doesn't do much empathizing himself...

As for Jude... I was a bit sad about her character. I loved seeing her as the Princeps-Elect and I thought she did such a good job at maintaining the middle ground for both the rich and the poor. I felt like whenever she offered her advice, despite not having experience, girly knew how to navigate the situation perfectly.
So seeing her go back to being a soldier was a bit disappointing but considering her entire family was military, I can see why she went back. I was happy to see her successful in the epilogue.

Now, the romance. Day and Jude's romance was such a rollercoaster omfg. The yearning, the angst, the longing, the GUILT. I loved their romance SO FUCKING MUCH and the ending made it come full circle imo. After everything they went through I honestly thought that their romance was a "right person, wrong time" and Ms. Lu did that phrase justice with this fucking couple.
I also loved how she didn't let that trope just die off and actually gave both characters enough time to heal... now hopefully they'll be better partners to each other as they have both matured and have had different experiences....

Overall, I'm so glad i re-read this series as I loved it just as I did when I was a wee girl LOL.
