Ghost World
by Daniel Clowes
Part ethnography, part yard-sale mixtape. Elegantly captures the characters in all their bitter efforts to attack life with assurance when they're the same stupid (somewhat annoying) kids anyone was. Clowes' characters are vivid and particular enough that I felt as if I'd known them, and understood the trend of their lives before and after this story. One of the best graphic novels I've run into.
