This was a reread but it has been so long that I had forgotten much of the minutiae.  I found myself more frustrated by the gender roles that I had previously accepted as period typical perhaps in part because I have aligned more with Jo in that women are capable and want more out of life than society would allow, when the success of a woman being tied to baby making and caretaking.  When your life amounts to the value of the man you are tied to, whether that is your father, your husband, your children…. It’s depressing.
