On my reread, I'm changing my rating to 5 stars. The first time through, I wasn't so used to Gaiman's writing style. This was my first book by him back then. This second time through, I could appreciate the story more now that I have a handle on the whimsy way he writes.

This truly is a beautiful story, and that ending really gut punches you in the feels. I highly recommend people give this one a read. Even adults could appreciate this one. I also want to see more books in this verse. About the Honour Guard, maybe more Bod adventures, something like that.

If you read this, treat these rather large chapters as short stories. Each chapter is an adventure the boy named Bod goes through. Yes, there's an overarching story that wraps up by the end, but still. The chapters are hefty and read more like individual stories. You'll appreciate it more like that.
