This was good, not great. Part of that is that I don’t like 1st person single pov in a fantasy series. Especially in a book this long. It takes away from some of the world building because we only get it from one view, and it’s hard to build side characters because we are so focused on the fmc, and her love interest. There is no opportunity to know anyone else, and in a world that is supposed to be large and rich, that disappoints me. This also dragged a bit in the middle, I was bored, I wanted out of Saeris’s head and to move into someone else’s to see what was going on somewhere else. I also didn’t love how one minute Kingfisher was just a huge unlikable dick, and then he changed from one page to the next. But again that’s the cost of single pov, we don’t see his struggle at all.
The last 200 pages were exciting, and it was interesting enough that I’ll continue the series, but if it remains single pov I’ll probably quit pretty quickly.
