Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5)
Steam Level: 🔥 (kissing only)

Phillip Jonquil, Earl of Lampton, has been secretly hunting spies as part of his work for the Foreign Office. His final target is the dangerous and elusive Le Fontaine. As Phillip bides his time at the home of his friend waiting for news of Le Fontaine's next meeting, he comes across a new adversary: Miss Sorrel Kendrick. Sorrel is beautiful and outspoken and declares herself at war with Phillip after an unfortunate misunderstanding. As these two face off, they slowly change their opinions of one another. And when Sorrel becomes entangled in Phillip's manhunt, they both realize how important it is to call off their feud and declare their true feelings.

This was my first book by Sarah M. Eden, and it certainly won't be my last! What a charming and suspenseful romance this was! If you've read Where the Stars Meet the Sea by Heidi Kimball, you'll enjoy the similarities between the love interests. Sorrel's backstory reminded me of Elide from Throne of Glass- tragic and heartbreaking. It was obvious why she was so lonely and closed off in the beginning. At the same time, it was easy to see her underlying attraction to Phillip. He was witty and charming, yet still caring and understanding. I liked how even though he presented himself as a dandy, Sorrel was slowly able to see past the facade. The suspense at the end of the book really took things up a notch for me. I was wondering if the hunt for Le Fontaine would be forgotten, but it was brought right back to the forefront and had me on the edge of my seat. Everything played out perfectly in the end. I would definitely be interested in reading the rest of the series and seeing how the other Jonquil brothers find true love!
