The Hundred Years' War on Palestine by Rashid Khalidi

challenging hopeful informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

5.0

REQUIRED READING.

The Hundred Years War on Palestine is a densely researched, engaging, thoughtful, and linear historical accounting of the origins and rise of Zionist settler colonialism in policy, practice, and violence against the Palestinian people. Khalidi actually begins his historical accounting in the mid-19th century by tracing the origins of Zionist theory, prominent figures, and writings. From there, he carefully outlines the geopolitical events and key players in the establishment of Israel as a settler colonial ethno-state, as well as endorsing it's aggressive military response against the Palestinian people. Khalidi plays particular attention to Israel's colonial endorsers in the West (ie. England and the US) through foreign policy, media messaging, and military support. As a testament to Khalidi's writing, The Hundred Years War on Palestine was easier to follow than other political/foreign policy books. Having also read Ilan Pappe's The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, by comparison Khalidi's writing is much clearer, a boon for those of us outside academia.
