Exciting Times
by Naoise Dolan
I read EXCITING TIMES by Naoise Dolan a couple of days ago and wow. I’ve heard this before but seriously if you like Sally Rooney, this book is for you! Like Rooney, Dolan has a way of making ordinary story so captivating. EXCITING TIMES follows Ava, a twenty-something-year-old woman who moved from Dublin to Hong Kong, in search of purpose and *excitement* in life.
⠀
I think what Dolan does so right in this book is the portrayal of the realistic nature of life and all its curveballs. Ava is sometimes unreliable, insecure, imperfect, but who isn’t. There’s no unnecessary drama or fluff; heartbreak, doubt, underpaying jobs, and messy relationships are all things most people experience at one time or another.
⠀
I’m so happy I was able to read this on Netgalley and I’m even more excited to get my hands on a physical copy because honestly there’s nothing better than a great story wrapped in a great cover!
