The first of the novel length stories in this (Pastel City) is actually an excellent piece of fantasy. I thoroughly enjoyed that story and was both interested in the world created and gripped by the evolution of the plot. Unfortunately, as the collection went on I felt that it became a little repetitive and samey. I like the concept of revisiting the same city and characters and envisioning different realities/plotlines for them, but in this case I ended up getting a little sick and tired of the recurring topics. Each envisioning raised questions in my mind which I feel never really got answered (especially in A Storm of Wings). I would have given a higher rating for Pastel City alone, but the collection as the whole dragged quite a bit. Maybe I should have read the odd story without plunging straight into the full collection!
