Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
4.0
This. Book. Was. Amazing. 4.5 stars.
Never mind that dodgy cover.
I was perfectly prepared to toss this book in the typical YA category. (At least, I think it's YA).
I don't read the normal no-magic thing anymore, because I thought it was boring.
Boy was I wrong. It managed to prove to me that non-paranormal, non-UF can also be good, so I shouldn't easily dismiss them.
The relationship development was just right. The interaction between Brittany and Alex was wonderful. It's a dual type narrative, switching from different POVs and it's in first person save perhaps the epilogue. It's also in present tense, but the amazing thing was, I hardly noticed it, and I DIDN'T mind it at all. That's a pretty amazing feat for an author.
My only problem was the typical beginning (that first line would make you think twice about reading it..then again, maybe not) and the antagonist, because he was, well, kinda lame. haha, that's just my opinion, though. ^^ Ending before epilogue a little bit cheesy, but didn't change my opinion of the whole book.
The ending... was perfect. <3
I won't spoil it, only that I feel sad about one character because of... well, ok, I won't spoil it.
I don't know about star-crossed lovers or Romeo and Juliet, but it reminds me why I love Romance as a fiction side-dish. On this instance, it's the whole dish; I'm not complaining. =P
I'll be re-reading this soon. ^^
As of now, I'll be in reader heaven. Pure bliss. ^^
